Nvidia Discusses G-Sync

Nvidia announced in conjunction with some of its partners, new displays sporting an Nvidia G-Sync badge. Focused on e-sports, G-Sync is currently capable of delivering 360hz using it’s innovative technology Variable Refresh Rate which locks the frame rate of the display to the frame rate of the GPU which eliminates screen tearing. Last year LG became the first TV manufacturer to become G-Sync compatible. LG has announced 13 new models that will provide an immersive game-play experience on a big screen, free of artifacts or any screen tearing.

Acer and ASUS, not to be outdone by LG, are working on 2 upcoming G-Sync Ultimate displays. These displays will feature a new backlight technology producing up to 1400nits brightness, up to 144hz refresh @ 4K resolution, 360hz refresh @ 1080p, super low lag and ultra fast response times.

Nvidia’s New Game Ready Driver

Also announced was a new game ready driver. Improved image quality in VR Games using Variable Rate Shading and Variable Rate Super Sampling, which are part of Nvidia’s Turing architecture. VRSS dynamically applies up to 8x SuperSampling to the centre region of the VR headset, this area is known as the foveal region. In addition the driver is now capable of setting the max frame rate for any application or game to help save power and reduce system latency, this is especially beneficial to laptops. The new G-Sync features will also be included in the latest driver update.

GPU Technology: Robots, Autonomous Cars, Gaming

Robots, autonomous cars and gaming have something in common: GPU technology powers them all. Toyota showed off their T-HR3 robot partner which is controlled by a human operator wearing a VR headset which is fed with augmented video and perception data from Nvidia’s Jetson AGX Xavier computer. CES attendees were also able to try out an autonomous wheelchair from a company called WHILL, it won an innovation award at CES 2019 and is powered by a Jetson TX2.
